
Kumasi-based businessman and entrepreneur Stephen Kwabena Boateng, popularly known as Kwabena Kesse or Kessben, has died.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Kessben Group of Companies reportedly passed away after an illness.
He was 68.
Born on September 12, 1957, Kessben grew up at North Suntreso in Kumasi and went on to build a diverse business empire spanning media, education, transportation, hospitality and financial services.
For more than three decades, he managed the Kessben Group of Companies, an umbrella organisation with interests in several businesses, including Kessben Travel and Tours, Kessben Driving School, Kessben Computer School, Kessben Shipping and Forwarding Ltd., Fosua Hotel and Conference Centre, Kessben University College, Kessben Consult and Kessben Foundation.
His business interests also extended to the media industry through Kessben FM Limited, the company under which Kessben FM, Kessben TV and Aseda TV operated.
Kessben was the sole shareholder of Kessben FM Limited and also held majority shares in Multi Credit Savings and Loans Ltd.
Beyond business, he was recognised for his philanthropic activities and contributed to various social causes.
He also served as a member of Ghana’s National Peace Council from 2004 to 2010.
His death marks the loss of one of Kumasi’s prominent entrepreneurs, whose business activities over several decades made him a well-known figure in Ghana’s private sector and media landscape.
