The Ministry of the Interior has called on the public to exercise extreme caution following heavy rainfall and flooding recorded in several parts of the country on Monday morning.
It has also advised residents to remain in their current safe locations until weather conditions improve.
In a statement signed by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the Ministry stressed the need to avoid unnecessary movement during the period of flooding.
“Those who are safely at home are urged to stay at home, while those who are at their workplaces or other safe locations should remain there until it is safe to travel. Unnecessary movement should be avoided,” the statement said.
The Ministry further cautioned motorists and pedestrians against attempting to use flooded roads, bridges, or waterways, warning that floodwaters can rise rapidly and pose serious risks to life and property.
“Motorists and pedestrians are strongly advised not to attempt to drive or walk through flooded roads, bridges, or waterways, as floodwaters can rise rapidly and pose significant danger to life and property,” it added.
Residents in flood-prone areas have been advised to relocate to higher ground where possible and to promptly report emergencies or persons in distress to the nearest security agency or emergency response service.
The Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Armed Forces, National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), and other emergency agencies have been deployed to monitor the situation, assist affected persons, manage traffic, and conduct rescue operations where necessary.
The Ministry also urged the public to remain calm, cooperate with security and emergency personnel, and rely strictly on official sources for information and updates.
For emergency assistance or to report persons in distress, the public has been encouraged to contact the following services: Ghana Police Service on 18555 or 112, Ghana National Fire Service on 192, and NADMO on 112.
