The Awutu Senya East Municipal Education Directorate has suspended morning academic activities in all public basic schools following heavy rainfall and widespread flooding in parts of the municipality.
In a public notice issued on Monday and signed by the Municipal Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service, Emmanuel K. Asabere Arthur, on behalf of the Municipal Director of Education, the Directorate explained that the decision was taken to safeguard the safety of learners, teachers, and other school staff as floodwaters continue to disrupt movement within the area.
The directive instructs parents and guardians to keep their children at home until conditions improve and it is safe for learners and staff to commute.
Headteachers have also been directed to promptly communicate the suspension to parents and guardians through their respective school communication channels.
According to the Directorate, normal academic activities will resume only after floodwaters have receded and authorities confirm that conditions are safe for teaching and learning to continue.
The Education Directorate further urged residents to exercise caution, avoid flood-prone areas, and adhere to all safety advisories during the period.
