The Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, has stated that the Ministry of Education will deal decisively with anyone found culpable of examination malpractice.
His remarks come amid growing concerns over misconduct in the ongoing 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), which has already recorded incidents of alleged cheating.
The Ghana Education Service has confirmed the arrest of seven invigilators following reported malpractice on the first day of the examination on Monday, May 4.
Reacting to the development in a social media post on Tuesday, Dr. Abas Apaak asserted that anyone engaged in examination malpractice is an enemy of the state.
“We will not rest. Anyone complicit in examination malpractice is an enemy of the state, an enemy of progress and will be dealt with severely,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, officials of the Ghana Education Service (GES) have assured that adequate measures have been put in place to ensure a smooth and credible examination process.
A total of 620,141 candidates from 20,395 schools across the country began writing the exams on Monday, May 4.
The candidates, comprising 304,349 boys and 315,792 girls, are expected to sit for the examination at centres nationwide.
