Ghanaians need solution to the current dumsor, not your excuses — Oforikrom MP to gov't

The Member of Parliament for Oforikrom, Michael Kwasi Aidoo, has urged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to fix the ongoing power outages and stop offering excuses.

His comments come as many parts of the country continue to experience erratic electricity supply, disrupting homes, businesses and essential services.

The outages have been attributed to factors including transformer faults, transmission challenges and a recent fire outbreak at the GRIDCo substation at Akosombo.

Speaking on Accra-based GHOne TV on Thursday, April 30, the lawmaker questioned how government is utilising revenue from the GHS1 per litre fuel levy introduced to stabilise the energy sector.

“...this government came to Parliament [and] asked for one cedi to be placed on every litre of fuel that you buy, which generates almost 500 or more, about 600 million cedis every month to the government,” he said.

He argued that with such inflows, government should be able to procure fuel and gas to support power generation and prevent outages.

“So what is so difficult to be able to use some of those funds to buy the fuel or the gas... so that we will not experience this dumsor?” he quizzed.

Kwasi Aidoo further criticised recent utility tariff hikes, arguing that consumers are already overburdened and deserve reliable electricity supply in return.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) lawmaker stressed that Ghanaians are demanding practical solutions to the power crisis rather than continuous explanations from authorities.
