V/R: Road construction commences on Mafi Kumase-Dabala Junction network  

Construction works have commenced on the Mafi Kumase–Tsati–Avedo–Wenu–Dabala Junction Road in the Central Tongu District of the Volta Region.

The project, which has been awarded on contract, is expected to improve transportation, promote trade, and enhance socio-economic activities within the district and adjoining communities.

Mr. Alexander Roosevelt Hotordze, the Member of Parliament of Central Tongu, who announced the development, said he was delighted that work had begun on the Avedo–Dabala Junction section, with the Mafi Kumase–Tsati–Avedo stretch expected to commence in the coming days.

He made this known after a joint inspection of the project sites with Mr Dodzi Addison Mornyuie, the District Chief Executive, during which they met engineers and community leaders along the stretch to brief them on the commencement of work.

Mr. Hotordze expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama and the Minister for Roads and Highways, Mr. Kwame Governs Agbodza, for their commitment to improving road infrastructure in the area.

He said the road, when completed, would ease the movement of goods and people, open the local economy, and facilitate development across the district.

“The project will greatly enhance transportation, boost local businesses, and open up our communities for trade and investment,” he stated.

Mr. Hotordze reaffirmed his commitment to continue working with stakeholders to ensure the provision of quality infrastructure and meaningful development for the people of Central Tongu.

Some residents who spoke to the Ghana News Agency expressed joy over the commencement of work, describing it as a long-awaited relief.

Some lamented how the poor state of the road networks had long affected movement, especially during the rainy season, and commended the government and the MP for responding to their needs.

“We have suffered for many years because of this road. Vehicles usually avoid the stretch when it rains, making it difficult to transport goods to the market.”

A few traders at Wenu, said the project would help reduce transportation costs and improve access to schools and health facilities.

“We are happy to finally see machines working on the road. It gives us hope that our communities are not forgotten.”
