Children from Adaklu, at the onboarding session for the Learning Upgrade Online Programme

Friends of Adaklu (FOA), a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) based in the Adaklu District of the Volta Region, has enrolled 18 learners from various communities in the district into the Learning Upgrade Online Programme.

The onboarding session, which introduced participants to registration, login procedures, and exploration of educational resources, was facilitated by Haneen Khalaf, Director of Global Business Development at Learning Upgrade.

Speaking at the event in Adaklu, Madam Stella Kudah, Country Director for FOA, described the Learning Upgrade Programme as a global online platform aimed at enhancing students' learning experiences. She explained that the platform provides courses in English, Mathematics, Digital Skills, Financial Literacy, and Workforce Development, among others.

The enrolled students are currently undergoing a one-year pilot program, after which they will receive certificates upon course completion.

One key feature of the program is its dependence on internet connectivity. "You can't do it without the internet. It does not work offline," Madam Kudah emphasized. She noted that FOA has facilitated access to the program using a Starlink Internet Device, ensuring that students can fully participate.

She encouraged parents to enroll their children in the program, provided they have access to an Android phone, laptop, or desktop with internet connectivity. The platform incorporates educational music, interactive learning, and quizzes to keep students engaged. "It’s one of the best online learning platforms I have come across. It keeps a child engaged—not just listening to music, but actually learning," she stated.

Madam Kudah also assured that space constraints would not be a barrier, as arrangements would be made to accommodate all students through a shift system. Additionally, she highlighted that parents could also enroll to learn new skills, such as Digital Skills, Financial Literacy, and Workforce Development.

Addressing concerns about the credibility of the certification, she confirmed that it holds international recognition, urging parents and educational stakeholders to take advantage of this opportunity to enhance students' learning experiences.

Some participants, including Bismark Appoh and Isabel Kumah, expressed enthusiasm about the program, stating that it would help them improve their English proficiency, enhance their academic performance, and prepare them for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Parents such as Bernice Kugblenu and Madam Mawuse, who attended the onboarding session, praised FOA's efforts in partnering with the Learning Upgrade Programme. They noted that the initiative has helped children in the community stay focused on their studies, reducing their involvement in unproductive activities and social vices.

The program is expected to benefit more students before the end of the pilot phase, depending on the availability of computers or tablets to accommodate additional learners.
