President John Dramani Mahama has reappointed Edward Abambire Bawa as the Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GOIL, effective immediately.
Bawa’s reassignment follows his recent appointment as Acting CEO of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).
The former Member of Parliament for Bongo, Bawa played a key role in Ghana’s energy sector during his time in Parliament, serving on the Committees on Mines and Energy and Communications. His expertise spans policy, stakeholder engagement, and energy reform.
He holds a Bachelor of Education in Chemistry from the University of Cape Coast and an MBA in Business Finance from the University of Liverpool. His career includes work as a Communications Consultant for the World Bank’s Oil and Gas Capacity Building Project at the Ministry of Energy, where he led public advocacy on major energy initiatives.
Bawa is certified in petroleum revenue management, upstream agreements, and energy commercialization. Beyond government, he has contributed to various technical and advisory committees in the energy sector.
GOIL, originally established as the Ghanaian branch of AGIP PETROLI in 1960, became fully state-owned in 1974. It was listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange in 2007 and rebranded as GOIL PLC in 2021 to reflect its expansion in petroleum and related industries.
The company operates under a nine-member Board of Directors, with the Group CEO and Managing Director overseeing its strategic direction.
