Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has promised to empower Ghanaian youth and unlock their potentials if elected as president in the upcoming December elections.
Speaking at the launch of the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) manifesto in Takoradi on Sunday, August 18, the NPP presidential candidate directly addressed the country's youth, particularly Generation Z.
"To the Gen Zees, I am well-plugged into the new world you belong and I know the keys to press to unlock your potentials within," Dr Bawumia said.
He acknowledged that while the government had made strides in job creation over the last seven years, youth unemployment remains a major issue.
Dr Bawumia pledged to sustain and expand the country's rebounding economy in order to address this problem.
Some of the policies he outlined to help empower youth and create jobs included developing Ghana's digital economy, supporting startups through tax incentives, and training over a million youth in IT skills.
The vice president said his digitalization agenda was focused on equipping Ghanaian youth with the skills required for the fourth industrial revolution.
"I want to build a Ghana where we leverage technology, data and systems for inclusive economic growth," Dr Bawumia stated.
He promised to enhance STEM and coding education in schools to prepare children for future job opportunities. Dr Bawumia said his vision was to create new opportunities and tap into the talents of Ghanaian youth.
"I am your 'plug' to creating opportunities and decent-paying jobs," the VP told the packed audience of NPP supporters and local leaders.
The full NPP manifesto outlines many proposals aimed at job creation, skills training and expanding access to opportunities for Ghanaians across all ages.
