The United Bank for Africa (UBA) Ghana Limited has taken electronic banking to another dimension with the entrance of an innovative electronic product, “Wise Alert”.

The product allows customers of UBA Ghana to receive SMS notifications on their mobile phones or through their e-mail addresses, or both, when transactions occur on their accounts.

The Managing Director of the bank, Mr Nnamdi Okonkwo said at the launch of the product in Accra.

Other electronic products customers of the bank enjoy include the "text me cash", the first mobile phone money transfer product in Ghana, "u-direct (Internet banking) and "electronic statement, all of which afford customers the opportunity of enjoying banking services from the comfort of their homes and offices.

Mr Okonkwo stated that it was for that reputation that the Bank of Ghana Govenor, Dr Paul Acquah advised the UBA at the launch of their new corporate identity in January 2007 to leverage their new status to develop more products and services to the delight of customers.

He added that two months down the lane, the institution was prepared to rollout exciting products that would make banking a more convenient experience.

Head of IT and Electronic Banking, Mr Austin Abolusoro, said "Wise Alert" would offer customers who were expecting payments to receive instant confirmation that payments had been effected.

Again, busy people with limited time to visit banks could still know their accounts status while on the move, as well as get informed on when lodged cheques had been cleared.

Mr Abolusoro submitted that, among other things, customers would be able to detect fraudulent transaction in time and salaried workers ought not to visit the bank to find out whether salaries had been paid, thus saving time and cost.
