Ghanaian cyclists leave for Ivory Coast on Thursday

Accra, July 14, GNA - River Park and All Stars cycling clubs dominated the final squad selected to represent Ghana at this year's La Route de L'est scheduled for the Ivory Coast from Friday through to Monday, July 26.

They were picked from a bunch of 24 after a four-day justify-your-inclusion exercise, which began last Friday. The two clubs produced two cyclists each while Gotten and City Migro had one apiece in the six-member team billed to leave Accra by road on Thursday.

Eric Djanmang and Richard Mawuko (River Park), Ayitey Akoto, Emmanuel Wayo (All Stars), skipper Joseph Annan (Gotten) and Prosper Agbo from City Migro would compete with cyclists from seven other countries.

The competition countries are host, Cote D'Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Togo, Benin, Morocco, France and Belgium, which are expected to compete in the road race, individual time trial and the Criteria in a total of 840 kilometres.

Mr Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports leads the Ghanaians contingent, which include four officials.
