The Asanteman Union of Italy last Friday donated 151 new hospital mattresses valued at 90 million cedis to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region. The Union had already donated clothing worth 20 million cedis to the Kumasi Children's home at a separate ceremony.

Presenting the mattresses to the hospital, Mr Kofi Nyarko, representative of the union, said the donations were part of its programme to assist recognised institutions in the region to deliver better services to the people and the vulnerable.

He said members of the union had made a firm commitment toward the progress of the region and thanked the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for his assistance in ensuring the smooth shipment and clearance of the goods at the port.

The Akyempimhene, Nana Adusei Poku, who received the items on behalf of the institutions, commended members of the association for the gesture.

He said KATH was currently embarking on massive infrastructural development and rehabilitation of old structures and there was the need for all Asantes both at home and abroad to organise themselves and contribute their quota towards the implementation of the projects

Dr P.E Karikari, Medical Director of the hospital and Madam Margaret Boafo Atiemo, Director of Nursing Service, received the items on behalf of the hospital.
