Ghanaian rapper M.anifest says while politics remains the ultimate source of power in society, music and the arts possess a unique ability to shape attitudes and influence social change.
According to the award-winning musician, art speaks directly to the human soul and has the capacity to transform perspectives, even though it may not immediately solve economic problems.
He made the remarks during an interview on TV3's Afternoon Show on Tuesday, June 23, while discussing the relationship between politics, music and societal change.
"The obvious answer is that politics is where power resides. That's the obvious answer. I'm not about to come and lie to you, but there's something about arts, not just music alone, that captivates the soul of people," he said.
M.anifest explained that music occupies an important place in people's daily lives, from religious worship and funerals to entertainment and social interaction.
He noted that although songs may not directly put money in people's pockets, they can influence mindsets and inspire change.
The rapper cited Ghanaian musician A.B. Crentsil's road safety song Driver Banza as an example of how music can leave a lasting impact on society.
According to him, certain songs often achieve what public campaigns and official messages fail to accomplish because they resonate deeply with audiences.
He, however, stressed that the influence of art should not be exaggerated at the expense of politics and governance.
M.anifest also said everyone who cares about societal issues is already involved in politics, even if they do not hold political office.
"We're all into politics because we care about what our tomorrows look like. We're all into it, so if you're talking about standing for political office, that's a different thing," he stated.
The musician added that concerns about issues such as flooding, corruption and national development are inherently political conversations.
