US pop star, Ariana Grande, has asked the White House to stop using her music after one of her songs was featured in a social media video promoting the Donald Trump administration's immigration policies.
The video, shared on TikTok by the White House on Monday, showed border agents handcuffing and detaining migrants while Grande's 2024 hit song Bye played in the background. The post was captioned: “Bye-bye… President Trump has delivered the most secure border in history.”
Grande reacted strongly to the post, commenting: “Please do not use my music in relation to this barbaric, inhumane, heinous nonsense.”
Shortly after her response, the video was muted, and her comment was removed from the post. Several social media users later noted that the comment had disappeared and that the soundtrack had been taken down.
Responding to the criticism, White House spokesperson, Abigail Jackson, defended the administration's immigration policies, saying the real problem was criminal undocumented migrants who had harmed American citizens.
The video comes after President Donald Trump signed legislation approving more than $70 billion in funding for US immigration agencies for the remainder of his current term.
Grande is not the first musician to object to the use of her music by Trump or the White House. In recent years, several artists, including Sabrina Carpenter, ABBA, Celine Dion and Beyoncé, have publicly opposed the use of their songs in support of Trump's political campaigns and policy messaging.
