NPP Confusion At Ministry Of Education As NPP Executives Go Wild Over FREE SHS
SEP 15, 2017 LISTEN

The scene at the Education Ministry was one of chaos after some Greater Accra Regional NPP Executives were denied access to the office of the deputy Education Minister in charge of secondary.

The Executives led by the Regional Organiser, Archibald Cobbina asked for audience with Dr Yaw Adutwum over some placement issues to do with members of the party but the Minister’s secretary asked them to wait.

“But the Regional Organiser and his executives took offence and the friendly exchange degenerated into a full blown verbal attack,” Joy News’ Ernest Kojo Manu reported Thursday.

Mr Cobbina and his colleagues reportedly defied the directive of the Secretary and attempted to enter into the office of the Minister but they were stopped by a police officer.

Some disgruntled parents who were at the premises of the Ministry with placement issues seized the opportunity to enter into the main office of the Minister, Ernest reported.

Dr Adutwum is reported to have left the meeting to witness the drama unfolding.

“He directed the police officer to drive the NPP Executives and parents outside,” the reporter said.

Mr Cobbina, Greater Accra Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), was reportedly displeased by the incident.

He went outside with his other executives to lament to some parents about the way the Education Ministers have been treating him since they came into office.

It was the deputy Sports Minister, Pius Enam Hadzide who calmed tensions and invited both the deputy Education Minister and the Executives into a meeting.

But Mr Cobbina has since shown some remorse. He said he did not storm the premises of the Education Ministry.

He said he went to the Ministry in his capacity as a Ghanaian to have issues with placement at the senior high school resolved.

"I am somebody who is loud voice," he clarified why he ranted on top of his voice at the Ministry, adding he was moved by the presence of some NPP executives whose wards were not placed.

NPP National Youth Organiser, Sammy Awuku has described the act as "reprehensible", saying the party will not condone such things in the future.

"We will condemn any attempt to exercise one’s concern in a manner that is not legitimate," he told Evans Mensah on Joy FM's Newsnite.

But Mr Awuku believes the Education Ministry has a role to play in ensuring that parents understand how the current Computer Placement System works.
