George Darko was born in 1951 at Akropong Akuapem in the Eastern Region of Ghana into the royal family. His exposure to traditional drumming and dancing in the courts as an infant formed the basis of his musical career. George is credited with the introduction of Burger Highlife in the mid 1980's. George learnt to play the guitar whilst at the Okuapeman Secondary School from a Canadian teacher. George Darko has played with various bands including The Reborn Avengers; The Soul Believer's Band and joined the Ghana Armed Forces in 1972. George was installed as the Tufuhene of Akropong and according to him has enabled him to rediscover himself and has given him a sense of direction.
