The official weigh-in for the highly anticipated Aboakyir Fight Night boxing event was successfully held at La Farmacia Lounge and Sports Bar ahead of Friday’s showdown at the Winneba Sports College.
The ceremony attracted key figures from Ghana’s boxing fraternity, including Mr. Patrick Johnson, who represented the Interim Management Committee of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA).
Speaking at the event, Mubarak Yusif Nanor of Legacy Rise Sports Promotions, Safe-Box Boxing Promotions and MYN Matchmaking expressed confidence in delivering an entertaining night of boxing.
He said all the fighters are determined to give their best performances and make this year’s Aboakyir Festival memorable, adding that the festival has been further enriched through the inclusion of boxing by Ayitey Powers Promotions.
The headline contest will see Nigeria’s Samuel Opagun face Benin’s Mpro Tadia Wali for the WBA Pan African Welterweight Title over 10 rounds.
Both fighters pledged victory during the weigh-in, setting the tone for what promises to be a thrilling main event.
The undercard is equally packed with exciting matchups, with several fighters hailing from Bukom, widely regarded as the heartland of boxing in Ghana.
Among the notable names on the bill are Daniel Otoo and Kpakpo Allotey, representing the current and older generations of Ghanaian boxing talent.
Lead matchmaker Coach Rasheed Williams, popularly known as Believer, called on boxing enthusiasts to troop to Winneba and support the event.
He noted that promoter Ayitey Powers has faced difficult moments in recent times, with some boxing plans put on hold, but remains committed to reviving the sport through quality promotions.
Ayitey Powers, a former boxer, has remained active in boxing promotion while also pursuing interests in music and ministry.
