Biakoye NPP Vice Chairman commends Agbodza, demands urgent fixing of deteriorating roads

Mr. Mohammed Yakubu, Second Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Biakoye Constituency, has urged government and relevant authorities to prioritise critical road projects in the area, describing the condition of several key routes as unacceptable despite ongoing maintenance works.

Speaking on the Bubune FM Morning Show hosted by Nana Yaw Asiamah, Mr. Yakubu commended the Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Governs Kwame Agbodza, for what he called a practical, hands‑on approach to supervising road projects nationwide.

According to him, effective supervision is essential to ensuring quality road construction and maintenance.

“As the minority, people should not think we criticise everything simply because we are in opposition. When good work is being done, it must be acknowledged,” he said.

He noted that the Minister’s frequent inspections and direct engagement with contractors have improved accountability and strengthened monitoring of road projects across the country.

However, Mr. Yakubu stressed that several roads within the Biakoye enclave remain in dire need of attention.

He singled out the Appiakrom–Atonkor road as a critical route that significantly reduces travel time for residents and commuters but continues to deteriorate. He appealed to the Roads Minister, district authorities and other stakeholders to collaborate urgently to address the situation.

Mr. Yakubu also raised concerns about the worsening state of the Abrubruwa–Nkwanta road, pointing out that the growing number of potholes poses daily challenges for motorists and residents.

He criticised what he described as poor maintenance practices by some contractors, arguing that temporary patching works often fail to provide lasting solutions.

He cited ongoing patchwork activities in Abotoase, Tapa Amanfrom and Apesokubi as examples of short‑term fixes that quickly give way to new cracks and potholes. He urged contractors to adopt more durable and technically sound repair methods.

Mr. Yakubu called on authorities to ensure that all maintenance works meet acceptable standards to guarantee durability and value for money.

While acknowledging recent improvements on some road networks, he insisted that more comprehensive interventions are needed to address the infrastructure deficits affecting communities within the district.

He further urged government agencies to prioritise road development in Biakoye to enhance transportation, stimulate economic activity and improve the welfare of residents.

According to him, residents are not only concerned about the commencement of road projects but also their timely completion and long‑term sustainability.

For many in Biakoye, the expectation remains clear: road projects must be executed to standards that deliver lasting benefits and contribute meaningfully to the district’s development.
