Pregnant mother of three hospitalised after alleged assault by husband

A pregnant woman and mother of three, identified as Chinelo Francis, has reportedly been hospitalised after she was allegedly brutally assaulted by her husband in Ichi, a community in the Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The incident, which has sparked outrage among residents and social media users, is the latest reported case of domestic violence in the region.

According to Chinelo, who hails from Ebonyi State, the trouble began after she asked her husband, Peter, for money to prepare food for the family. She explained that she had already used the proceeds from her small business to purchase vegetables and needed additional money to complete the meal.

However, Peter allegedly informed her that he had not made any money that day. He subsequently took their children home, leaving Chinelo at her shop.

The pregnant woman recounted that her husband returned to the shop around 8:00 p.m. and demanded that she close for the day and accompany him home. She refused, explaining that the period between 8:00 p.m. and late evening was usually when she made the majority of her sales.

According to her account, she eventually closed the shop at about 9:30 p.m., returned home, attended to the children, prepared them for bed, and later retired for the night.

She stated that it was later that same night that the alleged assault occurred.

The attack reportedly left Chinelo with serious injuries, necessitating urgent medical treatment and hospitalization. The extent of her injuries and the condition of her pregnancy have not yet been officially disclosed.
