The Ministry of the Interior has suspended the operating licence of Kantanka Security Services Limited with immediate effect over alleged regulatory breaches involving the use of unauthorised uniforms and the possession and use of firearms and ammunition by some of its personnel while on duty.
In a statement issued on Monday, June 22, 2026, the Ministry said the decision followed preliminary investigations into an incident that occurred at Kwabenya in Accra on Sunday, June 21.
According to the Ministry, personnel of the private security company are alleged to have engaged in activities that contravene regulations governing the operations of Private Security Organisations in Ghana.
The statement noted that the alleged use of unapproved uniforms, firearms, ammunition, and other security accoutrements constitutes a serious violation of the Police Service (Private Security Organisations) Regulations, 1992 (L.I. 1571), with significant implications for public safety and security.
As a result, the Ministry has directed Kantanka Security Services Limited to immediately cease all operations pending the outcome of ongoing investigations.
The Ministry further instructed the public, institutions, and corporate entities to suspend all business engagements with the company until further notice.
Kantanka Security Services has also been directed to cooperate fully with the Ghana Police Service and provide all information required to facilitate investigations into the matter.
According to the Ministry, the suspension is a precautionary administrative measure aimed at safeguarding public safety while due process is allowed to take its course.
It assured the public that appropriate action would be taken upon the conclusion of investigations in accordance with the laws governing private security operations in Ghana.
The Ministry also reminded all Private Security Organisations to comply strictly with the public notice on uniform regulations issued by the Ghana Police Service on February 5, 2026.
It urged members of the public to report any suspected unlawful activities involving private security companies to the nearest police station and reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing compliance and accountability within the private security sector.
The suspension comes amid ongoing investigations into a shooting incident at Kwabenya linked to tensions within the Kristo Asafo Mission. The incident reportedly involved former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo, who was allegedly shot at while attempting to serve court documents on her younger brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo Akofena.
