Carlos Queiroz has declared that his Ghana side will take no risks as they prepare for a decisive Group L clash against England in the FIFA World Cup.
The Black Stars go into Tuesday’s encounter in Boston knowing victory would guarantee passage to the next round, a stage they have not reached since the 2010 tournament in South Africa.
Ghana opened their campaign with a narrow 1-0 win over Panama, a result that leaves them level on three points with England, who impressed in a 4-2 win over Croatia.
Speaking ahead of the high-stakes meeting, Queiroz stressed discipline, intensity and adaptability as key to his side’s approach.
“The team in the last game was resilient; they played with discipline and concentration. We need to fight for the win,” he said. “We have to find a way to win… we are going to introduce a couple of different players in the starting lineup.”
The Portuguese coach, who replaced Otto Addo on a short-term deal, hinted at changes to his starting XI but insisted the team would remain competitive and ambitious.
“My first objective is the team, so the lineup tomorrow will be strong, enthusiastic and with a lot of motivation,” he added. “We have a great chance against one of the favourites to win the World Cup, but we don’t want to escape responsibility.”
Kick-off is set for 20:00 GMT, with Ghana aware that at least a point would strengthen their bid for a place in the knockout rounds. The Black Stars will complete their Group L fixtures against Croatia on June 27.
