The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has invited Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena to assist with investigations into a shooting incident that occurred at Kwabenya on Sunday, June 21, 2026.
The invitation was disclosed by the Director of Public Affairs of the Regional Police Command, Superintendent Juliana Obeng, during an interview on Nhyira FM's Kro Yi Mu Nsem morning programme on Monday.
According to Superintendent Obeng, Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena has been requested to report to the Regional Police Command as part of ongoing efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
"The Ghana Police Service has invited Mr Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena to assist with investigations into a shooting incident," she stated.
She also confirmed that six private security personnel arrested in connection with the incident remain in police custody as investigations continue.
Superintendent Obeng disclosed that a search conducted by police led to the retrieval of five pump action guns, a Taurus pistol loaded with seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, an extra magazine containing five rounds of 9mm ammunition, and several communication devices.
She stressed that the Police Service would invite any individual whose assistance may be required in the course of the investigation and assured the public that anyone found culpable would face the full rigours of the law.
The police spokesperson further confirmed that former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament and former Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Sarah Adwoa Safo, sustained injuries during the incident but remains in stable condition.
According to her, Adwoa Safo is receiving medical treatment, and the Police Service continues to monitor updates on her condition.
Providing details of the incident, Superintendent Obeng explained that officers from the National Operations Directorate and the Intelligence Directorate, who were on a special assignment, responded to a distress call from a residence at Kwabenya.
Preliminary investigations, she said, indicate that a ceremony was taking place at the residence of Mr Tamakloe Safo Jehoshaphat, also known as Akofena, when Adwoa Safo arrived and reportedly sought entry into the premises but was denied access.
Police investigations further suggest that armed security personnel at the residence discharged firearms during the confrontation, resulting in injuries to Adwoa Safo. Her vehicle was also found to have sustained multiple gunshot impacts.
"Based on information made available to the Police Command this morning, the former MP's condition is reported to be stable," Superintendent Obeng stated.
She urged the public to refrain from speculation and avoid circulating unverified information while investigations remain ongoing.
The Police Service, she added, is committed to conducting a thorough and transparent investigation and will provide updates through official channels when necessary.
Meanwhile, the family of the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo has rejected claims by his son, Israel Nana Kwadwo Safo, to the leadership of the Kristo Asafo Mission, insisting that the succession arrangements established by the founder remain in force.
In a statement issued on June 21, the family maintained that former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo remains the recognised Head of the Kwadwo Safo Family and continues to serve as the principal representative of the family's interests.
