I am the person of Anuembiik Theresah, a form two student of Siniensi Junior High School and I am here to talk about my school.

My school is indeed a best school and it is called, Siniensi Junior High School. It is located in Siniensi in the Builsa North District of the Upper East Region of Ghana. It is noted for its good academic performance in the district despite the challenges it faces, ranging from learning materials to infrastructure.

In 2016 alone, nine students represented the school in the Basic Education Certificate Examination and eight out of the nine passed, representing a percentage of 88.9% pass. Not only does my school perform so well in academics, but also in extra-curricular activities like sports competitions with other schools.

This alone tells us that if the problems of this school are solved, academic performance will be improved to a 100% pass every year. I therefore like to tell you about the problems of my school and to appeal to the District Assembly and NGOs to come to the aid of the school.

First and foremost is the lack of toilet facilities, urinals and dustbins for disposing rubbish. Our school does not even have a single toilet or urinal for either students or teachers. This makes it difficult for us to ease ourselves and it also prevent us from good sanitation practices. This even create disunity resulting from quarrels as students may defecate in people’s farms when they are stacked in this inconvenience. Even if visitors come to the school they are also compelled to go to the bushes to ease themselves. How will we practice the good sanitation that we are taught when we don’t even have a toilet? I leave that for you the listeners to think about it.

In addition is the lack of well stocked library for us to study effectively. If we have a library we will be encouraged to learn more with the available materials and prepare adequately for our exams. This will avoid the disgrace of our teachers because when we have a library to revise and learn more about what they teach us, we will definitely perform well in our final exam and it won’t be like they are not teaching us or what they taught have entered through one ear and left through the other ear.

Another problem is the lack of staff room where our teachers can sit to mark, record our assignments and to prepare their lesson notes. Our teachers normally sit under a neem tree all day and whenever it is raining, they pack to the verandas and are prevented from working as a result of the winds, cold and water reaching them. All of them cannot also occupy the headmaster’s office because it is very small like the size my shoe. How can our teachers work effectively when they do not have good working conditions?

Moreover, is about we the students, especially we those who write our names on the walls. This is a problem and it normally makes the walls very dirty. As future leaders, we must learn how to always keep things neat and clean. We should care for our surroundings and the walls like the way we care for our bodies. If we want to be remembered in the school, we should study hard and pass the B.E.C.E with distinctions so that we can be remembered always.

From all the above problems mentioned, I Anuembiik Theresah is therefore calling on the District Assembly and non-governmental organisations to come and help solve the problems of my school to increase academic performance. Thank you so much for your attention.
