Many Fought For Our Independence!

Those crediting Kwame Nkrumah as the sole individual behind Ghana’s independence are being driven by dishonesty.

Ghana attained independence through collective efforts and sacrifices from a wide range of people.

Though Nkrumah’s role cannot be underestimated, others also played roles similar to what he did.

Some started the struggle for independence long before Nkrumah was brought down to Gold Coast and it would be a travesty of justice to disregard the path those people created which eventually became the oil upon which the British left our shores.

Threats of mayhem and violence with regards to the amendments tabled before Parliament to have our holidays in sync with the true historical facts of this land can only be empty ones.

The jungle is no longer with us. It has become a relic of the past. It exits in books and fables and it is told to infants. We are under the rule of law. If Ablakwa and his cohorts believe that they have a stronger case, the law courts have their gates wide opened and will receive them.

The truth is, no single individual attained independence for us and so all those who played diverse roles to effect our freedom must be recognized. Founders’ Day it is!
