Obuasi East DCE Hints Of Massive Development Projects

The District Chief Executive of Obuasi East District Assembly, Madam Faustina Amisah has briefed stakeholders in the district about some major developmental projects which are soon going to hit the District and many others which have already commenced, she was speaking at the Assembly’s Second Ordinary Meeting which was held on Thursday 29th November, 2018.

Madam Faustina bemoaned the bad nature of roads in the district and said the Member of Parliament of the Constituency; Hon. Dr. Patrick Boakye Yiadom has assisted the Assembly to reshape some major roads starting from Abusco School to Diawuoso, through Ayaase to Gyimiso, and from Kwabenakwa to Mampamhwe as well as Kwabenakwa to Nyamesomede and also from Kwameduakrom junction to Kwameduakrom township.

The DCE also revealed that 550 desks have been supplied to forty (40) primary and junior High schools in the District by the MP of the area to enhance teaching and learning in the District.

Touching on the Government’s initiative which seeks to deal with the worrying issue of high unemployment rate in the country especially among graduates, Mrs. Amissah revealed that 82 trainees of the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) have been posted to the various departments in the District; where as some of the personnel have been assigned to collect data in relation to revenue collection in the district.

Stressing on the current performance of the Assembly’s revenue, she gave accounts on revenue collected into the coffers of the Assembly from last month up to date which she said amounts to GH₵ 178,000 representing 57% of the IGF for the year.

She indicated that in response to concerns raised by a member in the previous Assembly meeting concerning inadequate street lights, the Assembly has received a total of 200 complete street bulbs from the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development which are being installed in some areas with promise to extent it District- wide.

Concerning Planting for Food and jobs and Rural Development, the Honorable DCE posited that preparation is underway for the District to implement its program; she said the District has identified citrus and oil palm as crops with high potential for development, hence, an oil palm site has been sited at Domeabra for the initial stage of the program which happens to be one of the flagship programs of the President.

She then threw more light on this year’s Farmers’ Day Celebration and also pointed out that all the necessary preparations needed to ensure a successful ceremony have already been carried out including inspection of farms to select award winners for the occasion which would be in Nyamesomede.

“For this edition, twenty (20) farmers would be awarded various prizes and all farmers who see the need to grace the occasion are expected to come along with exhibits of the various commodities”, she added.

She also described the current security situation in the District as calm, however she remarked that there are still minor theft cases that need urgent attention by the security agencies to promote peace and stability in the area. She therefore informed the House of the Assembly’s plan to hold a meeting with leaders of some concern citizens of Obuasi who intend to embark on a demonstration due to the bad nature of roads. She said the purpose of the meeting is to advise members of the group to hold a peaceful demonstration which wouldn’t lead to destruction of properties which could disrupt the peace the District is enjoying at the moment.

As the Assembly is committed to achieving its aim by working together with its stakeholders, representatives of Ghana COCOBOD, Ghana Education Service and Anglogold Ashanti Company were also invited over to brief the House on updates of their various sectors in order to redress all concerns that may arise going into the future.
