Students of Serwaa Nyarko Senior High School in Kumasi on Friday besieged the offices of the Ashanti Regional Minister and KMA Chief Executive, over encroachment of school land.
It follows siting of shops at areas they say are designated for lawns outside the school's premises.
Some private developers have used the school's walls as support for their structures.
According to school authorities, student control has become difficult since students easily scale the school walls using the private structures as leverage.
Academic work continues to dip due to excessive noise from pubs around the school.
Students say they are living in fear after one of the shops in the area caught fire earlier this month.
Assistant Headmistress, Esther Gyasi, told Nhyira FM that the area is gradually becoming a den for criminals.
“When the shop owners close, some people hide within the containers and sometimes come into the school to pick our items,” she said.
Authorities said attempts to move them with support of local authorities have yielded little results
Clad in red armbands some selected students marched through the principal streets of Kumasi registering their displeasure at the developments.
They want city authorities to act as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, an official at the Regional Co-ordinating Council received a petition from the students on behalf of the Regional Minister.
