Students of Our Lady of Providence Girls' Senior High School (OLP) in Kwasibourkrom in the Jaman South District in the Brong Ahafo region on Saturday climaxed the 2017/2018 SRC Week Celebration with a grand durbar.

The theme for this year's programme was "Empowering Girl Child through Quality Education for Greater Impact on the Nation."

The colourful event, the first of its kind since the inception of the school in 1989 was attended by District Chief Executives, the Jaman South District Director of Education, Nananom from Japekrom and Kwasibourkrom, some members of the clergy, members of staff and Parents.

Parents and guardians could not hide their joy and excitement as they kept on applauding and nodding in admiration to the various well-rehearsed and coordinated displays that were exhibited in the areas of culture, drama, choreography, poetry recitals and military drills.

Delivering the welcome address, the Headmistress of the school, Reverend Sister RegeenammaZangiti said the theme for the programme was reminiscent of the vision of the founders of the school as far back as 1989.

Commenting on the historical journey of the school, Sister Regeenamma said the school has grown from strength to strength and carved a niche for itself in the country despite a difficult beginning.

She said the successes chalked by the school in the areas of academic, discipline, development and sports is not the singular effort of any individual but as a result of perseverance and hard work by the staff, management, parents and the community as a whole and thanked them for their constant support over the years.

She pledged the school's commitment towards ensuring that the relationship between the school, parents and the community is sustained since it is paramount to the development of the school.

She used the opportunity to thank the PTA for ensuring the completion of two PTA funded Projects, an ICT Block and a Science Laboratory which she said will go a long way to augment students’ performance in the areas of Information Technology and Science.

Citing inadequate staff bungalows, dormitories, the poor road network in the school and the absence of a modern clinic as some of the challenges facing the school, Reverend Sister Regeenammaappealed to the PTA and authorities to help in that regard.

The District Chief Executive for the Jaman South District, Honourable AlhajiAbuu himself a former tutor of the school charged the students to take their studies seriously and urged parents and students to take advantage of the Free SHS Policy.

AlhajiAbuu donated GH₵1,000 (one thousand Ghana Cedis) to aid in the construction of ironing sheds and pledged government's support for the school as according to him quality education strives on quality infrastructure.

More than 25 distinguished students who had excelled in various disciplines were also awarded.
