Dormaa Senior High School was declared the winner of the 1st edition of the High School Creative Challenge last Saturday at the Sunyani Polytechnic Auditorium. Dormaa Senior High School won four out of the six awards to beat Sunyani Senior High School, Twene Amanfo Senior High School, Bechem Presby Senior High School and Techiman Senior High School.
The High School Creative Challenge is an event organized by the Innovation Lab, a research initiative at the Catholic University of Ghana, to discover and develop creative arts talents. The event creates platform for senior high school students to showcase their talents in music, comedy, dance, fashion, drama and painting.
Sunyani Senior High School had seven contestants at the competition who were Festival Dancers(dance), Diamond Stars(dance), Two Paddies(dance), Makita(dance), Aquatic(music), Rain Raymond(music) and Tenge(music).
Bright Kankam(comedy), Elvis Amo(dance), Gloria Kwakyewaa(dance), Eye Red(music), represented Techiman Senior High School. Imoro Braimah and Samoah Yaw(comedy), and Oppong Samuel(music) represented Bechem Presby Senior High School. Twene Amanfo was represented by G-Unit(dance).
Dormaa Senior High School was represented by Agyemang Afari(fashion), Leticia Agyei(fashion), Bright Amponsah Kofi and Godfred Boahen(dance), Bright Awiti(music), Nana Awuah Pollman(music), Josephine Bomo(music) and Godfred Awuah(music)
After rounds of exciting performances, Bright Amponsah and Godfred Boahen(Dormaa senior high), was declared the winner of the dancing prize. Imoro Braimah and Samoah Yaw(Bechem Presec) won the comedy prize. Leticia Agyei(Dormaa High School) won the fashion prize. The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes in music went to Josephine Bomo(dormaa high school), Godfred Awuah(Dormaa High School) and Tenge (Sunyani High School) respectively.
Edward Twum Anane, Coordinator of the Innovation Lab, said in an interview that the development of the talents identified in the competition will be ensured. He also said the 2015 High School Creative Challenge Competition will be implemented in fifteen senior high schools from the 27 districts of the brong ahafo region. Mr Anane asked the District Directors of Education to ensure that The Headmasters of the Senior High Schools use entertainment fees solely for entertainment activities.
