A 50-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly manufacturing and distributing a fake alcoholic beverage.
Emmanuel Laryea Saban was arrested while producing fake 'Abe Nsuo Ginger Flavoured Gin', a local alcoholic beverage, in an uncompleted building near the Ravico Hotel at Nungua.
The original beverage is the trademark of Oheneba Kasempa Enterprise, but the suspect was found to have embossed the same trademark, packaging and telephone numbers of the original drink on his.
The Proprietor of Kasempa Enterprise, Mr Emmanuel Okyere, is said to have made a report to the police on the infiltration of the market of a fake brand of his product, embossed with the company's labels.
According to Sergeant Kwabena Danso of the Accra Regional Police Command, the police started investigations to establish the source of the fake product.
He said intelligence led to Saban's arrest on May 24, this year when he was caught in an uncompleted building manufacturing the fake alcoholic beverage with the help of four teenagers.
Sgt Danso claimed that Saban allegedly admitted to faking the drink.
He said Saban would be put before court after the completion of investigations.
