Nyaniba Health School awards scholarships to three BA students

Fiapre (B/A), Sept. 15, GNA – Nyaniba Health Assistant Training School and Care Institute on Friday awarded scholarships to three students from the Brong-Ahafo Region to pursue a one-year course in Health Care and Aide for the 2012-2013 academic year.

The students are Alex Duodu from Kintampo, Francis Dan Mumuni from Bechem and Miss Sadia Awudu from Goaso.

Mr Maxwell Owusu Amponsah, Business Development Officer of the school announced this at a ceremony at Fiapre near Sunyani.

Mr Amponsah said whilst Mumuni and Ms Awudu would both be schooling at the Koforidua campus of the school in the Eastern Region, Master Duodu would be based at the school's Elmina campus in the Central Region.

He explained the scholarship would cover payment of school fees at GH¢3,500 per a student for an academic year, excluding cost of feeding which would be borne by them.

Mr Amponsah said the facility was part of Management's policy to make professional education accessible to the needy but brilliant students in the country.

He said available records of the school indicate that 60 per cent of student population was from Brong-Ahafo Region, explaining that the scholarship was therefore in recognition of the region's contribution of that great percentage for the country.

Mr Amponsah said the decision was also in fulfilment of an earlier promise made in May 2012 when some representatives of the School first met the chiefs and elders of Fiapre to inform them of establishing its branch at the place.

Mr Amponsah the scholarship for the three formed part of a total of 16 scholarships granted to newly-enrolled students in the 2012/2013 academic year.

He said 13 out of the number were from the Central Region and that most of them were the children of the victims of the Senya Breku Motor Accident which happened in June this year.

The Business Development Officer announced that Nyaniba was the second private health institution in the country to be accredited by the Nurses and Midwifery Council of Ghana and National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) and that arrangements were being made to establish a training school at Fiapre.

Mr Amponsah said the institution had trained 1,200 students since it was established seven years ago saying 85 percent of the graduates were already working in both public and private hospitals and clinics while some were also working abroad.

Nana Opoku Ababio, the chief of Fiapre who received the awards on behalf of the three thanked the Management and advised the recipients to be serious with their studies to enable them pass out as professionally trained nurses to contribute their quota to the health delivery system of Ghana.

He promised to make land available for the construction of the school.
