Kumasi, Nov 11, GNA - A solemn parade and wreath-laying marked the 66th Remembrance Day at the Cenotaph in Kumasi on Friday.
Eight officers and 180 men, drawn from the army and other security services including the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana Immigration Service and the Customs and Preventive Service took part in the parade.
Four wreaths were laid in memory of the country's soldiers killed in wars and peace keeping operations amidst the rendition of traditional funeral dirges.
The first was laid by Dr Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah, Ashanti Regional Minister, on behalf of the Government and people of Ghana, and Brigadier-General Albert Opoku Adusei, General Officer Commanding the Northern Command, laid another on behalf of the security services.
Baffour Asare Owusu Amankawatia V, Bantamahene, and ex-Staff Sergeant Samuel Ofori, Regional Chairman of the Veteran Association of Ghana (VAG), laid one each on behalf of Asanteman and the veterans.
The Day is marked annually across the globe in remembrance of the about 55 million people who perished in World War II.
The ceremony began with prayers and as the clock struck exactly 1100 hours the siren wailed and the Binyon verses were also read.
