
Bolgatanga, Oct18, GNA- A 36 year old Ghanaian based in Virginia, United Sates of America, Mr Stephen Atubiga, on Monday said he was confident of winning the National Democratic Congress primaries and the Parliamentary Seat for Binduriin the Upper East Region.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Bolgatanga after the vetting process organized by the National Executive of the Party at the weekend, the aspirant who is the son of Mr Fortunate Atubiga, a former member of Parliament for Binduri, said he was called by majority of the delegates of the party, opinion leaders and youths from the Constituency to stand and that they would give him the nod.
“I have also been endorsed by two former Members of Parliament for the area who are Mr Fortune Atugiba and Mr Mark Achedogo”.
According to Mr Atubiga, who is also the Founder and President of the Eagle Express Shipping, Eagle General Construction; a multi-million dollar company based in the United States, he comes from a political family and had contributed immensely to the development of the Party both in Ghana and abroad.
He stated that as a life patron of the NDC in Virginia, he organized a lot of fund raising activities for the Party and also became a spokesperson of the Party on many of radio talk shows promoting the ideologies and programmes of the party.
Mr Atubiga stated that at the Binduri Constituency he was contributing an amount of 10,000 Cedis each month to theConstituency fund to run activities of the Party and had also purchased a vehicle and 12 motorbikes to ease campaign activities.
“I have also, for the past few years being paying school fees of deprived but brilliant students from the Constituency and also purchased fertilizers for many farmers in the area.
He indicated that majority of NDC people from the Constituency who defected to the NPP had vowed to come back to the Party if only he stands for the Primaries and stated that he would surely bring them back to the party.
According to the Aspirant, when he wins the Primaries, his next focus would be to reach out to his fellow contestants who had lost so that together they could win the seat for the party.
“I would also empower the youths with technical and vocational skills and financial assistance to engage in profitable ventures so as to prevent rural migration in the area when I win the seat”.
Mr Atubiga said another major area he would tackle would be to promote is peace in the entire Bawku traditional area especially, among the youths to pave way for effective development.
He said he wouldaddress the educational challenges in the area by utilizing his share of the Common Fund and lobbying for more support from outside the country to support them.
