The Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has urged candidates sitting for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to approach the exercise with confidence, honesty and determination.
More than 620,000 candidates from 20,395 schools across the country are currently writing the examinations, which began today, Monday, May 4.
A total of 620,141 candidates; comprising 304,349 boys and 315,792 girls, are taking part in the nationwide exercise across designated centres.
In a statement issued on Monday and signed by the Press Secretary, Ama Pratt, the Vice President extended her goodwill to all candidates and encouraged them to rely on their preparation.
“The Vice President is confident that all candidates will give off their very best after years of effort, discipline and preparation,” the statement read in part.
She further urged candidates to remain calm and focused as they write the examinations.
“She encourages all candidates to approach the examination with confidence, honesty and determination,” it added.
The Vice President also commended teachers, parents and education authorities for their role in preparing the candidates.
She, however, reminded supervisors and invigilators to uphold fairness and transparency throughout the examination period to ensure credibility and integrity in the process.
