One person has died after a truck carrying plywood overturned at the Kamirekrom Immigration Checkpoint on the Goaso–Kukuom highway following a reported brake failure, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has confirmed.
In a statement, the GNFS said the accident occurred on July 9 when the truck allegedly developed brake failure while attempting to stop at the immigration checkpoint, causing the vehicle to overturn.
Personnel from the Goaso Municipal Fire Station responded to the scene and carried out a rescue operation.
The firefighters succeeded in extricating a victim, identified only as Frank, who had become trapped beneath the truck's load of plywood. He was, however, pronounced dead after being rescued.
The circumstances surrounding the crash are expected to be investigated by the appropriate authorities.
