Asunia Residents Appeal for Urgent Deployment of DRIP Machines to Fix Deplorable Roads

Residents of the Asunia Electoral Area in the Kasena Nankana West District are urgently appealing to the Government to deploy District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) machines to rehabilitate their severely deteriorated roads, which they say are crippling transportation, farming, education, healthcare delivery and local commerce.

Assembly Member Hon. Robert Wegedam described the condition of the roads as alarming, noting that they serve as critical link routes connecting several communities to major roads in the district. He said the poor state of the roads has become a daily struggle, especially during the rainy season when many sections become nearly impassable.

Hon. Wegedam told the media that farmers are unable to transport their produce to markets, traders face rising transportation costs, and commercial drivers avoid the routes due to damage to their vehicles. Schoolchildren, teachers, pregnant women and the elderly also endure dangerous delays in accessing essential services.

In response, he mobilized the youth and community members to undertake temporary repairs using stones and gravel to fill deep potholes and trenches. While this has provided short-term relief, he stressed that it is not a sustainable solution.

He appealed to the Kasena Nankana West District Assembly and the Government to urgently deploy DRIP machines for proper grading and rehabilitation before the rains worsen the situation.

“The road is in a very deplorable condition, yet it serves as a major link between our communities and other parts of the district. Residents are suffering every day because of its poor state,” he said.

Residents are calling for swift action to ensure safer transportation, improved access to essential services and better economic opportunities for the area.
