Hundreds of football fans believed to be Ghanaians were left stranded outside Lincoln Financial Field in the United States on Saturday, June 27, 2026, after a reported ticketing mix‑up prevented them from entering Ghana’s Group L World Cup match against Croatia.
According to a report by The Atlantic, some supporters had travelled from Accra specifically to cheer on the Black Stars but were forced to watch the game from the sidewalks outside the stadium after their expected tickets failed to arrive.
Confusion Over Ticket Distribution
The report said confusion erupted over how tickets allocated to the large group were supposed to be distributed. While some fans expected a representative of a supporters’ group to deliver the tickets at the venue, others alleged that portions of the allocation may have been diverted and sold on the secondary market.
As tensions rose, police officers were deployed around one of the stadium gates as a precaution. Although there were isolated confrontations between a few supporters and officers, most fans remained calm—making phone calls, seeking help, and attempting to secure entry before kickoff.
Fans Cleared From Stadium Gate
Their efforts proved unsuccessful. About 30 minutes into the match, police cleared the area outside the gate and directed the disappointed supporters toward nearby parking areas.
The incident overshadowed Ghana’s matchday experience, which ended in a 2–1 defeat to Croatia in the Black Stars’ final Group L game.
Ghana Still Advances
Despite the loss, Ghana advanced to the Round of 32, where they are scheduled to face Colombia on July 4.
