New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart, Dr. Bryan Acheampong has said there is no evidence linking Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to insults and criticism directed at Kennedy Agyapong during and after the party’s presidential primary contest.
Addressing recent tensions within the party, Acheampong acknowledged that some supporters associated with various campaigns, including his own, had made comments about Agyapong that he described as disrespectful.
“During and after the contest, a few voices around the flagbearer’s campaign and even my own campaign directed disrespect and sometimes insults at Hon. Agyapong,” he said.
Acheampong added that many party members believed those individuals should have been restrained and that party elders could have intervened sooner.
However, he argued that responsibility should remain with those who made the remarks rather than being attributed to Bawumia.
“There is no evidence that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia commissioned, directed or endorsed those attacks,” he stated in a social media post.
According to him, the individuals involved had their own longstanding disagreements with Agyapong and acted independently.
Acheampong also noted that heated exchanges occurred from different sides during the campaign period, adding that comments made during political contests are often influenced by the intensity of the moment.
He urged all parties involved to pursue reconciliation and move forward without waiting for others to take the first step.
“My hope is simply that all of us, those who wounded Ken, and Ken himself, might find the grace to make peace,” he said.
