Former Member of Parliament for Odododiodioo and former National Coordinator of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, has taken a significant step towards his reported bid for the position of National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress by paying a courtesy call on the National Chief Imam, Osman Nuhu Sharubutu.

In a statement shared on his official Facebook page, Vanderpuye revealed that the visit was to formally inform the Chief Imam of his intention to contest for the influential position and to seek prayers, blessings, and wise counsel as he begins the journey.

The former DRIP National Coordinator emphasized the importance of consulting respected national figures whose guidance and experience continue to shape leadership and national development.

He described the National Chief Imam as a revered symbol of peace, unity, humility, and national cohesion whose influence transcends political and religious boundaries.

According to Vanderpuye, the meeting was marked by a warm reception, fatherly advice, and heartfelt prayers from the Chief Imam, which he said strengthened his resolve to pursue a leadership path anchored on service, unity, and progress.

“I was deeply encouraged by his warm reception, fatherly advice, and heartfelt prayers for a successful and peaceful journey ahead,” he noted.

The former Sports Minister also expressed profound appreciation to the Chief Imam for his blessings and longstanding commitment to peace and national development.

Political observers view the visit as an important gesture that highlights Vanderpuye’s efforts to build consensus and seek guidance from respected national figures as conversations surrounding the future leadership of the NDC begin to gather momentum.

Having served in various leadership capacities, including as a Member of Parliament, Minister of Youth and Sports, and National Coordinator of the DRIP initiative, Vanderpuye is widely recognized for his experience in public administration and grassroots political engagement.

His latest move is likely to spark increased interest among party faithful as the contest for the NDC National Chairman position gradually unfolds.
