The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, has imposed a curfew on several communities within the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region following a violent attack that claimed three lives and left nine others injured.
The directive, issued through an Executive Instrument on the advice of the National Security Council, takes effect from Friday, June 19, 2026. The curfew will be enforced daily between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. until further notice.
The affected communities include Keri, Abrewanko, Abrewanko Junction, Nyambo, Nyambo Junction, Shari, Kromase, Power, Nyakoma, Odomi, Bonakye, and Nkwanta.
In a statement announcing the measures, the government appealed to chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth groups, and residents to remain calm and pursue peaceful means of resolving disputes.
Authorities have also placed a total ban on the possession, carrying, and use of firearms, ammunition, and other offensive weapons within the affected areas.
Security agencies warned that anyone found with such weapons would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The security measures follow a deadly attack at Odomi on Thursday, June 18, which escalated tensions in the municipality and triggered an immediate response from the government.
The incident resulted in the deaths of three people, while nine others sustained gunshot injuries and are receiving treatment.
Government says the curfew and related restrictions are aimed at restoring peace, protecting lives and property, and preventing further escalation of violence as security agencies work to stabilise the situation in the area.
