Member of Parliament for Abetifi and former New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant, Dr Bryan Acheampong, has called on former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong to support efforts aimed at restoring unity within the party amid renewed internal tensions.
The appeal comes after the former flagbearer aspirant, who recently received backlash after criticising the party for failing to complete the Afari Military Hospital, clapped back against his critics.
Speaking on his Net TV on Thursday, June 18, the former Assin Central MP vowed to "spill the beans" and make the party uncomfortable in July 2027.
Reacting to this in a social media statement on Friday, June 19, Dr Acheampong acknowledged the frustrations of his former flagbearer contender but urged him to help steer the party toward reconciliation.
“I have followed with concern the recent remarks by Hon. Kennedy Agyapong and his threat of action against the party and against certain individuals. Ken is a son of this party… I urge him, respectfully but firmly, to lower the temperature and to lend his considerable influence to the work of healing rather than division,” he said.
Dr Acheampong, who also contested in the party’s January flagbearer race, said he understood the emotional weight of electoral defeat, stressing the need for collective rebuilding ahead of 2028.
He noted that the NPP’s 2024 election loss must serve as a turning point for unity, discipline and organisational rebuilding rather than internal conflict.
“Our party suffered a painful defeat in 2024. The single most important task before us between now and 2028 is to rebuild, to reunite, and to return to power. Nothing — no grievance, no provocation, no personal quarrel — can be allowed to stand above that mission,” he stated.
Dr Acheampong also addressed concerns over past internal tensions during the primaries, acknowledging that some comments directed at Mr Agyapong were inappropriate.
He, however, stressed that such actions should not be attributed to the party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, or used to justify continued internal hostility.
He further called on all factions within the party to embrace restraint and reconciliation, noting that prolonged divisions would weaken the party’s chances in future elections.

Personally I think Kennedy has been mistreated by the national NPP executives. They have allowed anarchy, disrespect and use of bad- mouthing especially Koka and abronye against leaders to reign supreme in the party. So leaders cannot act and have become toothless. NPP needs new crops of respected leaders. The current leaders have nothing to offer.
