Climate advocate and long-distance cyclist James Kumbeni has received a significant boost to his environmental campaign efforts after being presented with a brand-new bicycle by Great Victory Academy in Bolgatanga.
The donation, made by the school's Director, Mr. Kris Josef Akubah, is aimed at supporting Kumbeni's cycling activities, climate action advocacy, community outreach initiatives, and his upcoming cycling expedition to Benin.
Speaking after receiving the bicycle, a Specialized Diverge model known for its endurance and performance capabilities, Kumbeni expressed profound gratitude to the management, staff, and students of Great Victory Academy for their generosity and confidence in his mission.
“This generous gesture means a lot to me and my cycling journey. The bicycle will undoubtedly support my cycling activities, climate action advocacy, community outreach programs, and the many journeys ahead,” he said.
Kumbeni has become a recognized figure in Ghana's climate advocacy space through his use of cycling as a tool to promote sustainable transportation and environmental awareness.
In 2024, he gained national attention after cycling approximately 815 kilometers from Bolgatanga to Accra under the campaign dubbed "Ride for Clean Air and Safe Cycling," aimed at encouraging the adoption of bicycles as an environmentally friendly mode of transportation and advocating for cyclist safety on Ghana's roads.
The cyclist, who is a member of Keekee Cycling Konnect, has also led peace and community engagement rides in the Upper East Region and participated in several social-impact campaigns across the country.
With plans now underway for a cycling journey to Benin, Kumbeni says the newly donated bicycle will play a crucial role in helping him expand his climate awareness campaign beyond Ghana's borders. The trip is expected to further promote sustainable mobility, environmental protection, and community engagement across West Africa.
Mr. Akubah and the Great Victory Academy community were commended for supporting youth-led climate action initiatives and helping to inspire positive change through practical investment in environmental advocacy.
