Police in the Upper East Region have retrieved 1,400 rounds of ammunition from a mechanic workshop near the Assemblies of God Church in Bolgatanga following a report by a local auto mechanic.
According to the Upper East Regional Police Command, the discovery was made on May 9, 2026, after the mechanic informed police that his apprentice had spotted suspicious items while sweeping the workshop premises.
A police team was immediately dispatched to the area, where officers recovered two sealed packets concealed in fertilizer sacks inside a hen coop. The packets contained 700 rounds each of 7.62×39mm ammunition, bringing the total number retrieved to 1,400 rounds.

The ammunition has since been taken into police custody for evidential purposes.
Police said investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the ammunition and identify those responsible for concealing it at the workshop.
