Director of Legal Affairs for the United Party, Andrew Appiah Danquah, has criticised the motivation behind the Agenda 111 hospital projects initiated by the previous New Patriotic Party administration.
The Agenda 111 initiative, launched under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, was designed to construct 111 hospitals across the country.
It includes 104 district hospitals, seven regional hospitals and psychiatric facilities aimed at improving access to healthcare.
Former President Akufo-Addo has recently called on President John Dramani Mahama to ensure the completion of the projects to strengthen healthcare delivery.
Speaking on Accra-based JoyNews' AM Show on Friday, May 8, Appiah Danquah argued that the initiative was driven more by procurement interests than genuine concern for healthcare delivery.
According to him, the large-scale hospital project failed because it was not motivated by the welfare of Ghanaians.
“What fueled that agenda is procurement. Let's create a system where my people can find local fuel into their pockets. And that's why it failed” he stated.
His comments add to the increasing public debate over the implementation and completion of the Agenda 111 projects, many of which remain at various stages of construction across the country.
Meanwhile, in a similar criticism, Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, described the Agenda 111 hospital projects as a “trap” set by the previous New Patriotic Party administration.
"They had no intention of completing this Agenda 111… I’m saying that it’s a trap,” he said while speaking on Accra-based TV3’s New Day on Tuesday, April 14.

The worst thing the NPP is doing that is provoking the Ghanaians more and more is their inability to acknowledge the crimes Akufo-Addo and Bawumia committed against the state and the people; rather, every day, they keep praising Akufo-Addo. If what the former leader did is seen as a governance to keep praising, Ghanaians are too wise and not stupid enough to allow the NPP to rule the country again. In any serious country with a robust judiciary system, both Akufo-Addo and Bawumia should have bee...
