The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has warned that it will not tolerate what it describes as deliberate falsehoods and coordinated propaganda against the government.
Speaking at the party’s “Setting the Record Straight” series on Thursday, May 7, a Deputy National Communications Officer of the party, Godwin Ako Gunn noted however, that the NDC remains open to constructive criticism.
He accused the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) of activating what he described as a misinformation campaign aimed at distorting the government’s record.
“Let me state from the outset, the New Patriotic Party has once again activated its well-known machinery of misinformation, half-truths and calculated propaganda against us,” he said.
Mr Ako Gunn argued that political communication must be grounded in facts rather than attempts to manipulate public perception.
According to him, the NDC will respond to every claim with evidence and ensure that misinformation is corrected.
“The NDC is not afraid of criticism. In fact, we welcome constructive scrutiny, but we will not tolerate deliberate falsehoods, character assassination and coordinated propaganda,” he stated.
He added that the party’s communication strategy is aimed at ensuring that citizens are properly informed to make decisions based on facts.
The NDC communicator further referenced past political communication initiatives by the party which to him, were aimed at countering misinformation from the NPP.
