Ghana Education Service (GES) has released the approved academic calendar for the 2026/2027 school year for basic schools across the country.
In a statement signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations at GES, the calendar applies to Kindergarten, Primary, and Junior High Schools.
The first term, which will last 15 weeks, begins on September 8, 2026, and ends on December 17, 2026. A vacation period will follow from December 18, 2026, to January 4, 2027. A mid-term break is scheduled for November 5 and 6, 2026.
The second term will run for 12 weeks, starting on January 5, 2027, and ending on March 25, 2027. Vacation for this term is from March 26 to April 19, 2027.
The third term, lasting 14 weeks, will begin on April 20, 2027, and end on July 22, 2027, marking the end of the academic year.
GES also announced that the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will be held from May 5 to May 12, 2027.
The Service reminded stakeholders that all public holidays within the academic year are to be observed, and a two-day mid-term break will be observed in each term.
GES urged school heads, teachers, parents, and guardians to take note of the dates and make adequate preparations for the academic year.
