The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, has strongly condemned assaults on firefighters and damage to their equipment, describing perpetrators as “enemies of public safety” during the International Fire Fighters' Day celebration held on Monday in Ho.
The event was held under the theme: “An Attack on Firefighters and Equipment is an Attack on Public Safety: End Assaults and Protect the Firefighter.”
Speaking at the Ghana National Fire Service Regional Headquarters, Mr Gunu said any attack on fire personnel or their equipment poses a direct threat to entire communities.
“An assault on a firefighter is unacceptable. When fire tenders are damaged, delayed, or denied access, public safety suffers,” he told a gathering of officers, dignitaries, and sister security services.
The Minister pledged his unwavering support for the Service. He said he would engage assemblies and communities to promote fire safety and respect for emergency responders.
He urged the public to keep access routes clear and to cultivate a culture of prevention in homes, schools, markets, and places of worship.
Addressing the officers directly, Mr Gunu said, "Your sacrifices are seen. Your service is valued. You are an indispensable pillar in building a safer society."
