The Eastern Regional Police Command has arrested eleven individuals in a major security operation linked to the escalating Adambrobe chieftaincy dispute at Aburi, retrieving a cache of weapons and ammunition.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, and signed by C Inspector Bridget Opoku of the Public Affairs Unit, the Command disclosed that ten of the suspects were arrested on Sunday, May 3, during an operation by the Aburi District Police at Adambrobe.
Police recovered five pump action rifles, 23 live cartridges, a taser, body armour and six mobile phones. Two vehicles believed to have been used by the suspects, an unregistered Ford pickup and a Toyota Corolla with registration number GE 2560 19, were also impounded.
The suspects have been identified as Dawu Joseph, a farmer, Kwame Aboagye, a vulcaniser, Samuel Obeng, a taxi driver, and Owusu Paul, said to be linked to the Adambrobe Asekyere family. The others are Jerry John Kwame Atilla, a businessman based in Sowutuom, and Evans Dekadzor, Christian Atsu, Samuel Annan, Thomas Davidson and Richard Agyeman, all described as private security personnel.
Police later arrested an eleventh suspect, Douglas Amoako Danquah, on May 4 after he was spotted participating in a procession within the township.
All suspects are currently in custody assisting with investigations.
The Command has urged all factions involved in the dispute to exercise restraint as security efforts are intensified to maintain peace in the area.
The arrests come against the backdrop of a High Court order issued in Koforidua on April 24, 2026, restraining Mr Danquah and four others from carrying out planned installation ceremonies scheduled for April 27 and May 4. The order followed an application by the Inspector General of Police under the Public Order Act.
Earlier, elders of the Kwaakwa Asiampong Asakyire Family had raised alarm over a potential breakdown of law and order, alleging that Mr Danquah intended to proceed with the installation despite the court directive.
