The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced planned power interruptions in parts of the Kumasi Ridge enclave from May 6 to May 9, to allow for transformer upgrade works.
The exercise forms part of a nationwide programme aimed at improving electricity supply reliability and reducing system overloads in key distribution areas.
Customers in the affected areas are expected to experience phased outages lasting about six hours each day, depending on the schedule.
“This initiative forms part of ECG's ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure and improve service delivery, following the successful completion of projects at Adenta, Nmai Dzorm, Lashibi, and Teshie-Nungua Primary Substations," reads part of a statement issued by the ECG on Monday, May 3.
According to the power distribution company, the project will involve upgrading an existing 20/26MVA transformer to a higher-capacity 30/39MVA unit at the Kumasi Ridge Bulk Supply Point substation.
The upgrade will be executed in phases across multiple locations, including Kwadaso, Asokwa, Adum, Suame, and parts of the Kumasi metropolis.
ECG noted that the intervention is expected to significantly improve power supply stability in the enclave and reduce the frequency of outages in the long term.
“To ensure the safe execution of the works, there will be phased and scheduled power interruptions within the Kumasi Ridge catchment area,” the statement stressed.
