A Deputy Spokesperson for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) 2028 flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Ekua Amoako, has criticised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration over the ongoing intermittent power outages.
She described the administration's handling of the power crisis as excuse-driven.
Her comments follow weeks of erratic electricity supply across the country, which has disrupted homes, businesses and essential services.
The outages were initially linked to transformer upgrade works by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
The situation was later compounded by a fire outbreak at the GRIDCo substation in Akosombo, which reportedly cut about 1,000 megawatts from the national grid.
Speaking on Accra-based JoyNews’ AM Show on Wednesday, April 29, Dr. Amoako accused the government of failing to take decisive action to resolve the crisis.
“Now we wake up and every day is another excuse, another excuse, another excuse, coming from the same person that told us that we should credit them with some intelligence,” she said.
She further claimed that the situation has been particularly severe in the Ashanti Region, where residents have endured prolonged outages for months without clear interventions.
According to her, the impact on small businesses has been significant, especially for traders who rely on constant power supply to preserve goods.
“I think the only thing you guys can be credited for or commended for is how quickly you come up with excuses. We expect that you solve the problem,” she added.
Dr. Amoako stressed that Ghanaians expect practical solutions rather than explanations, warning that continued outages could worsen economic hardship for households and entrepreneurs.
