The Energy Commission has graduated 296 electricians in Kumasi after they successfully passed the November/December 2025 Electrical Wiring Certification Examination, reinforcing efforts to improve safety and professionalism within Ghana’s electrical installation industry.
The newly certified professionals form part of a national cohort of 1,179 successful candidates out of 1,386, representing an 85 percent pass rate.
The Commission says the outcome reflects steady progress in strengthening competency standards across the sector.
The graduation ceremony was held on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi.
It brought together stakeholders from the energy and technical training ecosystem under the theme “Training Today’s Youth, Certifying Tomorrow’s Experts.”
At the event, graduates were awarded certificates authorizing them to legally undertake electrical wiring installations in line with the Electrical Wiring Regulations, 2011 (L.I. 2008).
Authorities say the certification regime is central to reducing unsafe electrical practices that contribute to fire outbreaks and electrocutions.
Speaking on behalf of Acting Executive Secretary Adwoa Serwaa Bondzie, the Manager of Electricity Regulation at the Commission, Adolf Nii Ashong, stressed that proper certification remains critical to safeguarding lives and property.
He noted that the Commission’s licensing framework is designed to ensure only qualified practitioners are permitted to undertake electrical installations.
He also highlighted ongoing reforms, including the nationwide registration of apprentices aimed at formalising training pathways in the electrical sector.
According to him, more than 600 apprentices have already been registered, with additional interventions being rolled out to boost female participation.
Mr. Ashong further referenced the Commission’s digitalisation drive through the Installation Completion Certificate Application (ICCAPP), being piloted with the Electricity Company of Ghana and the Northern Electricity Distribution Company.
The system is expected to improve transparency by enabling real-time verification of electrical installations.
Addressing journalists on the sidelines, Kojo Ebenezer Asaam, Senior Officer in charge of Inspection and Enforcement at the Commission, said the newly certified electricians are now legally mandated to perform wiring works nationwide.
He disclosed that over 20,000 electricians have been certified to date.
He cautioned that individuals without certification are not legally permitted to undertake electrical installations and urged unlicensed practitioners to enroll in accredited training programmes to obtain certification.
The ceremony concluded with a call for the graduates to maintain high professional standards, adhere strictly to safety regulations, and continuously upgrade their skills in line with evolving industry demands.
